Taxfix
Taxfix (formerly TaxScouts) pairs you with a UK-based accountant who prepares and files your Self Assessment return for a fixed fee. Prices currently start at £99 for new customers, £169 as standard.

At a glance
Taxfix isn’t software you fill in yourself. You answer a few questions online, send your documents, and a dedicated accountant prepares and files the return for you. The fee is fixed up front, so you know the cost before you start.

What is Taxfix?
Taxfix is a managed Self Assessment service. Instead of working through the return yourself, you answer some questions online, pick a level of support and get matched with an accountant who takes it from there. Its accountants are UK-based, accredited by the main UK accounting bodies and have at least five years’ experience. There’s no do-it-yourself option - every return is prepared by an accountant.

Pricing
Taxfix has three Self Assessment plans. The lower prices are a discount for first-time customers at the time of writing.
Prepared & Filed Accurately - £99 (usually £169)
For simple tax situations:
Accountant prepares and files your Self Assessment
Accuracy guarantee
Messaging while your return is prepared
Filed, Optimised & Protected - £149 (usually £249)
For people who want their tax position reviewed:
Everything in the first plan
Deduction and relief review, with a tax-planning call
HMRC audit and letter support
Filed + a Year-Round Tax Partner - £349 (usually £499)
For more complex situations:
Everything in the second plan
Year-round access to your accountant
Annual tax efficiency review
HMRC agent representation
Most customers are covered by the plan fee, but Taxfix says a few cases need extra support, such as large volumes of bookkeeping or complex capital gains calculations.
Is Taxfix MTD compatible?
The accountant-filed Self Assessment service is separate from Making Tax Digital. Taxfix also sells its own MTD software for sole traders and landlords, from £4.99 a month including VAT, with the first three months free. The two higher MTD plans (£24.99 and £39.99 a month) add accountant support and include your 2025 to 2026 Self Assessment. Check HMRC’s software finder to confirm it’s listed before you rely on it.
Pros and cons
Pros:
An accountant does the return for you
Fixed fee, known before you start
UK-based, accredited accountants
Quick - usually two days once they have your documents
Accuracy guarantee
Helpful if your return has several income sources and you’re not confident doing it yourself
Cons:
Costs more than do-it-yourself software
The headline prices are for new customers - standard prices are £169, £249 and £499
Complex cases can cost extra
You still need to gather and send your records
No option to file it yourself for less
MTD software is a separate monthly subscription
Who is Taxfix best for?
Taxfix is for sole traders who’d rather pay someone to do their Self Assessment than spend an evening on it themselves. You get a real accountant, a fixed price and a quick turnaround, without the cost of an ongoing accountant relationship. If your return is simple and you’re happy doing it yourself, GoSimpleTax or HMRC’s free service will cost far less. If you want year-round advice, Taxfix’s top plan covers that, though a local accountant is worth comparing at that price.
Frequently asked questions
Is Taxfix the same as TaxScouts?
Yes. Taxfix was previously called TaxScouts. The service works the same way: an accountant prepares and files your return for a fixed fee.
How much does Taxfix cost?
Self Assessment plans are £99, £149 and £349 for new customers at the time of writing. The standard prices are £169, £249 and £499.
Do I have to fill in the tax return myself?
No. You answer some questions and send your documents, and your accountant prepares and files the return.
How long does Taxfix take?
Taxfix says its standard is two days from the point your accountant has all the documents they need. More complex returns can take longer.
Does Taxfix handle Making Tax Digital for Income Tax?
Taxfix sells separate MTD software from £4.99 a month, with the first three months free. Its accountant-filed Self Assessment service is a different product.
