Revolut Pro
Revolut Pro is a business sub-account built into the personal Revolut app, aimed at freelancers, sole traders and side-hustlers. There’s no monthly fee, but you pay a processing fee on every card payment you accept.

At a glance
Revolut Pro is the product UK sole traders are actually offered, not Revolut Business, which is built for incorporated companies. There’s no subscription fee, but you’ll pay a processing fee of roughly 1-2.8% plus 20p on card payments you accept, and there’s no bank feed integration into accounting software like Xero or QuickBooks.

What is Revolut Pro?
Revolut Pro is a separate sub-account that lives inside the personal Revolut app, rather than a standalone business platform. It’s built for freelancers, sole traders and side-hustlers, giving you a segregated business balance, account number and dedicated debit card without leaving the app you may already use personally. You need an existing Revolut personal account first, on any plan including the free Standard tier, and there’s no extra cost to add Pro on top.
Revolut Business, by contrast, is built for incorporated companies and isn’t generally available to UK sole traders. If you’re a sole trader looking at Revolut, Pro is the product you’ll actually be offered.
Is my money protected with Revolut Pro?
Revolut won a full UK banking licence in March 2026, and Revolut’s own Help Centre confirms that Pro account balances count toward FSCS protection up to £120,000 per person, once your account has completed the move from the older e-money entity (Revolut Ltd) to the new bank entity (Revolut Bank UK Ltd). Revolut has said this migration is happening “as quickly as possible” for existing customers, so it’s worth checking your account status in the app rather than assuming you’re covered. Note that this FSCS limit is shared across all your Revolut balances as one person, including your personal account, not £120,000 per account.

How much does Revolut Pro cost?

Online payments, UK consumer cards: 1% + 20p
Online payments, other cards: up to 2.8% + 20p
In-person card payments: 1.5%
Tap to Pay: 1.7%
A £15 chargeback fee applies if a customer disputes a payment, refunded if the dispute is resolved in your favour

Only available to the self-employed, not incorporated companies

Who is Revolut Pro best for?
Revolut Pro is worth a look if you want to accept card payments in person or online without paying for separate hardware, and you’re comfortable running your business banking through the same app as your personal account. The trade-off is real: no bank feed into accounting software, and a processing fee on every card payment you take. If keeping your books simple with an automatic feed into Xero, QuickBooks or FreeAgent matters more to you, a dedicated free account like Starling or Tide is likely a better fit.
Frequently asked questions
Can a UK sole trader open a Revolut Business account instead of Pro?
Generally no. Revolut’s Help Centre lists sole traders as unsupported for Revolut Business, which is built for incorporated companies. UK sole traders are directed to Revolut Pro, a sub-account inside the personal Revolut app.
Is Revolut Pro free?
There’s no monthly fee for Pro itself, though you’re on a personal Revolut plan (free Standard or a paid tier) underneath it. Instead of a subscription, you pay a processing fee of roughly 1-2.8% plus 20p on card payments you accept.
Is my money protected with Revolut Pro?
Since March 2026, Revolut has a full UK banking licence, and Pro balances count toward FSCS protection up to £120,000 once your account has been migrated to the new bank entity. Check your account status in the app to confirm you’re covered.
Does Revolut Pro connect to Xero, QuickBooks or FreeAgent for Making Tax Digital?
No. Revolut’s own comparison of Pro and Business confirms accounting software integrations are a Business-only feature. Pro users need to enter or export transactions manually into their MTD software.
Do I need a business bank account as a sole trader?
No, it’s not a legal requirement - you can trade through a personal account. Revolut Pro is one option for separating business and personal spending without paying for a dedicated business account.
